Most large American or English-style breakfasts can be too heavy and greasy, or soaked in sugar and syrup.

The Healthier Options

There is a healthier option that still fills you up: break your fast in the traditional Central American way.

The typical Salvadoran breakfast is consumed by most of the population of El Salvador. The usual time for eating is between seven and nine in the morning.

Salvadorans’ breakfast consists of (or blended) beans that are then fried. It also includes cream, butter, and cheese or curd, as some call it; fried plantains. To complement this first meal of the day, some use French bread, which is bread flour with a bit of salt, or corn tortillas.

A More Typical Option

The typical Salvadoran breakfast is a hearty combination of some of the country's basic foods. It is usually enjoyed in the morning with breakfast coffee, which varies in different regions of the country. It is also commonly consumed with cow’s milk or processed milk.

While others traditionally serve breakfast alongside freshly squeezed juice made from mango, pineapple, or plantain.

This breakfast menu can mainly be summarized as including: ranch eggs, plantain, black beans, handmade tortillas, cream, horchata, and coffee with hot milk.
