Ingredients

1 cup of Water

2 cups of Sugar

4 tablespoons of Butter

½ teaspoon of Vanilla extract

Red food coloring

Preparation

Step 1 : In a saucepan over moderate heat, stir water, butter, and sugar until dissolved.

Step 2 : Then, continue cooking over low heat without stirring until soft brittle strands form when a few drops are poured into a glass of cold water.

Step 3 : Pour the melcocha onto a greased tray or marble and let it cool to handle it.

Step 4 : Add mint or vanilla and vegetable coloring drop by drop.

Step 5 : With hands greased with margarine, stretch and fold the melcocha repeatedly until it acquires a creamy and almost solid consistency.

Step 6 : Finally, cut the melcocha into small pieces or long bars.
