Salvadoran Lightning Bolts
Ingredients
1 cup of Flour
½ teaspoon of Salt
2 teaspoons of Sugar
1 cup of Water
5 Eggs
30 grams of Butter or margarine
3 cups of Milk
½ cup of Sugar
3 Egg yolks
6 tablespoons of Cornstarch
1 teaspoon of Vanilla
Ground cinnamon
Preparation
Step 1 : The recipe begins by placing the sugar over low heat and stirring constantly until obtaining a smooth and lump-free caramel.
Step 2 : Then, remove from heat and gradually add the peanuts, mixing well.
Step 3 : Pour the mixture into a silicone mold and let it cool before cutting into pieces by hand or with a knife.
Step 4 : In a pot, heat the water and butter until the butter completely melts.
Step 5 : Remove from heat just before it starts to boil, add the sifted flour along with the sugar and salt, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
Step 6 : Next, add the eggs one by one, mixing continuously.
Step 7 : The resulting dough is placed on a greased and floured baking tray, forming elongated portions with proper spacing between them.
Step 8 : Bake at 450° initially for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350° and continue baking for approximately 20 more minutes.
